I loved this book

I loved this book!!!! I love her testimony and her walk of faith. I still have questions regarding my walk with the Lord and this book did not answer those, but, it did encourage in the Lord. That is what we need so often. A testimony of how God is walking with others is always good. The word of our testimony helps others to overcome. Keep Faithing It, Cora. I have listened to you dad for years and have read many of his books.

This is an amazing book! In a very authentic and transparent way, Cora Jakes Coleman teaches you how to activate your faith in order to get to your God-given purpose. This is a very inspirational teaching rooted and grounded in the word of God! Every believer needs this book in their life. One of my favorite memoirs

I thought I had read nearly every memoir written by or about my favorite old timers, but this one had escaped me. Written over a decade before Miss Allen's death, this book is much more amusing, as it contains stories I'd never heard from George's pre-fame life. I have been laughing out loud at the anecdotes - and I thought I had "heard 'em all" between Burns, Benny, Cantor, Marx, and the lot. I encourage anyone who loves these old stars to get this book. This one is fresh and new to me, even though it was written in 1955. A hidden gem!

Great Book!

I love reading about early TV and vaudeville actors and this book didn't disappoint. George and Gracie were a big part of that era.
George dealt with the struggles of that time with humor and optimism and he was a brilliant writer. I didn't realize that he wrote most all his material except for his TV show where he collaborated with other very gifted writers.
I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who is interested in vintage TV and vaudeville.

I thought this book was going to be more about George and Gracie, but it doesn't get to that part until about half way through. It does give some very interesting information about George and his family as he was growing up and how he and other boys survived the streets. It was written in such a way that you can hear George telling the stories, which makes you enjoy it if you're a George Burns fan, as I am...

Helpful... especially when you are LOST!

I purchased this book, and a few others, before going to China for a month. Not knowing ANY of the language, this book was by my side the whole time! It fits in pockets, purses, anywhere. Many of the phrases were used again and again...Especially when I was lost. It has the word or phrase, the pronunciation, and the meaning, as well as Chinese characters. Many of the Chinese language isn't translated into our alphabet or taught with the alphabet so even showing people the words didn't work out well. Having the pronounciations and some characters was the key to my success! A great book to have along.

Perfect for Travelers and comes with phonetics

I just returned from China and this is a convenient and perfect phrasebook for a traveler. It has the 1,000 most used phrases logically grouped together into 100 categories that are easy to find. You will see the English phrase, Pignon translation, Phonetic pronunciation (not all books have phonetics), and the Chinese characters.

I practiced the Phonetic pronunciations with my Chinese friends and they understood me! The previous reviewer states that tones are not in the book, but I found that they were expressed in the English phonetic pronunciation. The book also has Chinese characters, so if someone doesn't understand you, you just point to the phrase in Chinese characters.

For someone traveling to China and not wanting to take a long class to learn the nuances of the language or a giant book of phrases to lug around (ie, Speak E-Z book), this book works fine. And you can slip it conveniently in a pocket, purse, or camera bag as it is the size of a wallet.

A Perfect Phrasebook for Visitors to China

With plans to study at Beijing University next spring, I thought that it would be helpful to purchase a Chinese phrasebook so as to be able to fully take advantage of all that Beijing has to offer. From what I have already read of this little, but surprisingly effective, book, I am quite confident that I will have no problems at all exploring the city.

The phrasebook is broken into several practical sections, including ones concerning greetings and introductions, eating out, shopping, doing business, and almost anything else imaginable. Do not be fooled by the book's diminuitive size; it certainly packs a punch!

Although this phrasebook is by no means a comprehensive guide to the Chinese language, it is extremely helpful for anyone wanting to gain a basic understanding of the language before venturing out to China for a trip.

JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD By Redrabbitt on August 26, 2015 I enjoyed this fast pace wedding novella with interesting characters. The plot kept the pages turning and the dialog was entertaining. What happens when the wedding planner and her fiancé have a difference of opinion? A wedding is a girls dream, and she knows what she wants, but what if the groom is trying to rush things? Abby has those doubts and realizes she just doesn't feel the love she must have to marry someone. When a prospective new client enters the picture, and it's a sexy man that makes her heart race, more doubts are realized. Derrick Knight's corporate future and promotion hinges on being married, but what happens when the bride-to-be backs out, he is in a hurry and time is of the essence? I'masked on a regular basis why I have some sort of animal in every one of mybooks. It is simple...I love animals and I love writing about them. It doesn'tmatter what kind, shape, or size. I love them all!
 
Throughoutmy life I've had dogs, birds, frogs, lizards, rabbits and of course preciouscats. My husband and I have a dozen bird feeders, two water fountains andmultiple yard-art fixtures that we put food and water in for the critters.
 
Severalyears ago our cat of fifteen years passed away and we were going to wait awhilebefore getting another one but as the days went on we missed having a cat. Itwas during the winter so there weren't any kittens available. I searched allthe shelters and saw pictures of an eight-month-old female, shorthair cat.
 
Whenwe picked up Ardy from the Bremerton, WA PAWS, they said we'd never be able topick her up or touch her. She'd been abused. My husband played with her andinstantly fell in love. We took her home and after many months of special care,she loves to be held. We laugh because she likes it so much she won't let youput her down.

Nothing to brag about

Characters were fun. Plot was no plot. This book was written by an author who didn't seem to be invested in the story. Editing was good. It was just long enough that it wasn't prolonged boredom. I would probably read another book by this author to see if she could really develop a plot.

Lovely Short Story

Abby Blackwell is a wedding planner with a problem: she is engaged, but isn’t sure she should be. Her first clue is when she loses her engagement ring down the drain and doesn’t really care. Her second clue is when Hunter Price comes to her to plan his wedding and she is attracted more to him that she ever was to Derrick, her fiancé. Besides, Derrick hasn’t been the same since he proposed to her….Hunter Price owns a detective agency and is paid by his not-very-nice friend Derrick to convince Derrick’s fiancée Abby to plan her wedding by planning his fake wedding. Derrick needs to be married right away to secure his promotion, and Abby fits the bill. As soon as Hunter sees a picture of Abby, he takes the job based on how drawn he is just to her picture, but he really isn’t comfortable with the deception. Will true love prevail, or will the deception prove to be too much for all of them?

This short story was a pleasure to read. There was a lot packed into this story and it didn’t feel rushed or hurried, and the plot didn’t lack from being so short. The writing was engaging and not too wordy. I felt immediately like I knew Abby and most of the characters. The thing that bothered me a bit was the only character I couldn’t really understand very well was Abby’s friend Alessandra. Her motivations for what she did, which I don’t want to say too much or I’d give too much away, weren’t really clear to me. A Delightful Read

The Wedding Switch is a quick read that is truly sweet. We meet Abby who is a wedding planner... she knows what her perfect wedding is supposed to be like, but what should she do if she doubts herself where it concerns the groom!? Then add in meeting Hunter, whom she has felt a connection with... we go along this delightful journey that has some interesting twists...
I enjoyed seeing how things unfolded! Characters that made me smile and secondary characters that added more to the story! A romance that was a pleasure to read!

About the Author
Dr. Chris Beasley is Professor in Politics and Co-Director of the Fay Gale Centre for Research on Gender at the University of Adelaide. Dr Beasley primarily teaches in three areas of Political Studies: social and political theory, gender and sexuality studies, and cultural politics. She has been previously been located in Sociology, Women's Studies, Aboriginal Studies and Education. Her books include Heterosexuality in Theory and Practice (with Heather Brook and Mary Holmes, Routledge, 2012), Engaging with Carol Bacchi (edited with Angelique Bletsas, University of Adelaide Press, 2012), Gender & Sexuality: Critical Theories, Critical Thinkers (SAGE, 2005), What is Feminism? (Sage, 1999) and Sexual Economyths (Allen & Unwin, 1994).

She is currently writing a book on contemporary popular film titled The Cultural Politics of Popular Film: Power, Culture and Society (with Heather Brook, Manchester UP) and preparing another book, Internet Dating (with Mary Holmes, Routledge). Dr Beasley is also engaged in several research projects, including critical thinking in the first year university experience, embodied ethics and revaluing care, innovations in heterosexuality and hetero-masculinity.
