The book begins with Burns' childhood and early struggles in vaudeville before he meets Gracie Allen. Burns then details his efforts to win her affections; their marriage and adoptions of two children; radio, film, and TV productions (including the script of a 1955 show for their television series). Included are 16 pages of illustrations. George Burns, born in 1896, passed away at age 100 in 1996. Gracie Allen preceded him in death, passing away in 1964.

One of my favorite memoirs

I thought I had read nearly every memoir written by or about my favorite old timers, but this one had escaped me. Written over a decade before Miss Allen's death, this book is much more amusing, as it contains stories I'd never heard from George's pre-fame life. I have been laughing out loud at the anecdotes - and I thought I had "heard 'em all" between Burns, Benny, Cantor, Marx, and the lot. I encourage anyone who loves these old stars to get this book. This one is fresh and new to me, even though it was written in 1955. A hidden gem!

Great Book!

I love reading about early TV and vaudeville actors and this book didn't disappoint. George and Gracie were a big part of that era.
George dealt with the struggles of that time with humor and optimism and he was a brilliant writer. I didn't realize that he wrote most all his material except for his TV show where he collaborated with other very gifted writers.
I really enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to anyone who is interested in vintage TV and vaudeville.

Mostly George, But Eventually Gracie Arrives

I thought this book was going to be more about George and Gracie, but it doesn't get to that part until about half way through. It does give some very interesting information about George and his family as he was growing up and how he and other boys survived the streets. It was written in such a way that you can hear George telling the stories, which makes you enjoy it if you're a George Burns fan, as I am...
